PROVIDER REVIEW
Just Energy Review 2026
Just Energy has served electricity customers since 1997, growing from its Canadian roots to become a multinational energy marketer with over 4.5 million customers across North America. The company earns a 4.6-star rating from customers on 2TurnItOn with a strong NPS of 61, indicating solid overall satisfaction. However, their billing clarity score of 23/100 suggests customers sometimes struggle to understand their bills. With 137 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—above the industry average of 120—prospective customers should weigh these factors carefully.
JUST ENERGY
Complete Provider Analysis
Just Energy owns multiple Texas brands including Amigo Energy and Tara Energy, offering customers various plan options including their JustGreen renewable energy products. The company successfully restructured after filing bankruptcy protection following Winter Storm Uri in 2021 and is currently being acquired by IGS Energy. While their customer service score of 53/100 indicates room for improvement, the company’s fixed-rate plans with renewable options may appeal to environmentally-conscious consumers seeking rate stability.

Positive Experiences
“Evelyn was amazing and explained in detail how she could save us money. She even compared with our most recent bill. She showed and explained the numbers to where both me and the wife understood.”
“Very pleased with the price and the quality of service. The representative on the phone was extremely helpful, courteous and professional. It really took stress out of a big decision. I’m still smiling 20 minutes later… thank you so much.”
“We got Just Energy at Sam’s Club. Free days between 9 am and 4 pm, which is great for me since I bake all day sometimes. When we have to make a payment plan, which has happened a few times, they have always worked with us. That’s a bonus because sometimes pay periods fall erratically. Summertime especially when bills are higher than expected. So far love this company – we’ve been with them about 5 months.”
“The agent was very patient even though I asked him 100 questions. Professional and friendly. It appears that I’ve received a good rate.”
“The enrollment was seamless, informative, and rather quick. The only thing I would have changed was being let known an approximate time my connect would have been. But overall it was good.”
Critical Feedback
“I’ve been with this company for the best part of a decade with no issues. Had an issue 2 months ago because my bill shot up to almost double. Called them and the rep was clearly not willing to listen or work with me. The following month, my bill was 3X the normal amount (average over the last 5 years), so I called CenterPoint to check the meter. They changed the meter because it was defective, yet Just Energy didn’t want to hear it.”
“Absolutely disappointing beyond belief. As a customer who recently moved, they didn’t honor my current plan. My bill went up almost double the amount, and when you look online new customers get better rates and deals. When I explained this to the representative he said, ‘You can always cancel your plan.’ After having all of my family switch to them, I think it’s time we all cancel and go elsewhere.”
“I scheduled a move to a new house on a certain day. They called me two days later requesting additional information and then transferred me to set up a new account without telling me – after I spent $350 to get the balance to $0. They wanted me to set up a new account with a $300 deposit instead of transferring the services I’ve already had for years. I was on the phone with them for over an hour and a half. Horrible experience.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Just Energy: Conditionally Recommended
Established provider with billing transparency concerns
Just Energy earns a conditional recommendation based on mixed performance across key metrics. As a major multinational energy marketer with roots dating back to 1997, the company brings substantial industry experience and offers appealing fixed-rate plans with renewable energy options. Customer sentiment shows promise with a strong 4.6-star rating and a True NPS of 61, indicating generally satisfied customers who would recommend the service. However, significant concerns emerge in the details. The billing clarity score of just 23/100 suggests customers frequently encounter confusion with their statements—a notable red flag. Additionally, 137 PUC complaints over the past 12 months exceeds the industry average of 120, signaling room for improvement in dispute resolution. The customer service score of 53/100 reflects middling support experiences. Prospective customers should weigh the attractive plan options against these operational inconsistencies.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
