PROVIDER REVIEW
Just Energy Review 2026
Just Energy is a multinational energy provider founded in 1997 that serves over 4.5 million customers across North America. The company, which emerged from bankruptcy restructuring after Winter Storm Uri in 2021, earns a 4.5-star rating on 2TurnItOn with a strong NPS of 59, indicating solid customer loyalty. However, the provider’s 192 PUC complaints over the past 12 months exceeds the industry average of 120. The company’s low billing clarity score of 19/100 suggests customers may find invoices confusing, though its JustGreen renewable options remain a notable differentiator.

Just Energy operates multiple Texas brands including Amigo Energy and Tara Energy, acquired in 2011. The company is currently being acquired by IGS Energy, which will create one of North America’s largest energy retailers serving 7.5 million customers. While the customer service score of 50/100 indicates room for improvement, the company’s fixed-rate plans with renewable energy options continue to attract environmentally-conscious consumers seeking rate stability.

Positive Experiences
“Jennifer was a great advisor, she thoroughly and patiently explained all the benefits and advantages of transferring from my current electricity provider to Just Energy. My current energy plan with my current provider is about to expire, therefore, this new arrangement and contract could not come in a better time. I was tired of being pushed into spending a certain minimum kWh per month of electricity in order to avoid penalties and overcharges, and now, with Just Energy, I have more flexibility.”
“Signing up was super easy. Rhonda was amazing!! Completely professional but also compassionate and funny. Communicative and could definitely tell she cares about the situation. If I ever have to call for any reason, I will be asking for Rhonda! So happy I chose Just Energy and had Rhonda to help me make it seamless.”
“The enrollment clerk was awesome and helpful, with lots of patience with us seniors. She was very supportive and knowledgeable about the program. Thanks for a non-stressful transition. 🙏🏾❤️”
“We are enrolling today in the 7 hour free daytime electricity program Just Energy has introduced to Sam’s customers with certain guarantees. Like 15 cent/kWh for the remaining 17 hours 24/7, if you cancel before the 24 months end Sam’s pays the $150 fee no questions asked. For anyone like retirees staying home who can use electricity between 9-4 pm it’s all free. I’ve done the math and it works out well.”
“Had the best experience with my customer service representative. She was so transparent and didn’t hide what most light companies do. I was GRATEFUL for that and she honestly made my day. The customer service industry needs more people like her 💯”
Critical Feedback
“I live in Lubbock and have been using Just Energy, who told me my charges would be 0.012 but charges me 0.015. Their service fee is $90, their automated services lie about fees and pricing. So many issues, I’d never recommend them to anyone.”
“I recently fell for the sales pitch from their salesperson at Sam’s Club. My first billing cycle was only 14 days and was $140. I wondered why my first billing cycle was only 2 weeks? Well I found out – I had 14 days to cancel but had no idea what I was going to pay until I had a full billing cycle. Since my cancellation grace period was over, I’m unable to move providers without paying another $175. I’m paying the same amount I was with my previous company.”
“I promptly called and cancelled my connection while moving out of the rental place but 2 weeks later received a new bill for usage of electricity outside of my initial cancellation dates. When I enquired about it they said my connection is still active and asked me to pay for the extra days. Both their customer service and business practices are highly unethical, so please be aware and choose better providers.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Just Energy: Conditionally Recommended
Established provider with mixed service track record
Just Energy earns a conditional recommendation based on a mixed performance profile. As a large multinational energy marketer founded in 1997, the company brings stability and multiple plan options to Texas customers, including fixed-rate plans with renewable energy choices. Customer sentiment shows promise with a solid 4.5-star rating and a True NPS of 59, indicating generally satisfied customers. However, significant concerns emerge in the details: a billing clarity score of just 19/100 suggests customers frequently struggle to understand their charges, and 192 PUC complaints over the past year—well above the 120 industry average—signals ongoing service issues. The customer service score of 50/100 reflects mediocre support experiences. With IGS Energy’s pending acquisition, service dynamics may shift. Just Energy works best for customers who prioritize fixed-rate stability and renewable options but should be prepared to scrutinize bills carefully.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
