PROVIDER REVIEW
Just Energy Review 2026
Just Energy has operated in the Texas electricity market since 1997, growing into a multinational energy marketer serving over 4.5 million customers across North America. The company earns a 4.5-star rating from customers with a strong NPS of 58, indicating solid overall satisfaction. However, the picture is mixed: Just Energy logged 236 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—nearly double the industry average—and its billing clarity score of 19/100 suggests customers often find their bills confusing. The provider offers fixed-rate plans with JustGreen renewable options.
JUST ENERGY
Complete Provider Analysis
Just Energy’s journey includes significant corporate changes, including 2021 bankruptcy restructuring following Winter Storm Uri and an ongoing acquisition by IGS Energy. The company also operates the Amigo Energy and Tara Energy brands in Texas. While customer reviews reflect generally positive experiences, the elevated complaint volume with Texas regulators and low billing transparency scores indicate areas requiring attention. Prospective customers should carefully review plan terms and billing structures before signing up.

Positive Experiences
“Jennifer was a great advisor, she thoroughly and patiently explained all the benefits and advantages of transferring from my current electricity provider to Just Energy. My current energy plan with my current provider is about to expire, therefore, this new arrangement and contract could not come at a better time. I was tired of being pushed into spending a certain amount of minimum kWh per month of electricity in order to avoid penalties and overcharges, and now, with Just Energy, I have more flexibility.”
“We are enrolling today in the 7 hour free daytime electricity program Just Energy has introduced to Sam’s customers with certain guarantees. Like 15 cents/kWh for the remaining 17 hours 24/7, and if you cancel before the 24 months end, Sam’s pays the $150 fee no questions asked. So for anyone like retirees staying home who can use all their electricity needs between 9-4 pm, it’s all free. I’ve done the math and it works out to an average savings that makes it worthwhile.”
“Signing up was super easy. Rhonda was amazing!! Completely professional but also compassionate and funny. Communicative and could definitely tell she cares about the situation. If I ever have to call for any reason, I will be asking for Rhonda! So happy I chose Just Energy and had Rhonda to help me make it seamless.”
“They answered my questions and helped me get my services even without a deposit.”
“Rep Luis was great! He approached me at Sam’s Club, presented the benefits, and helped me review my current bill to calculate how much I’d be saving.”
Critical Feedback
“I promptly called and cancelled my connection while moving out of the rental place but 2 weeks later received a new bill for usage of electricity outside of my initial cancellation dates. When I enquired about it they said my connection is still active and asked me to pay for the extra days. Both their customer service and business practices are highly unethical so please be aware and choose better providers in the market.”
“Customer care is trained to lie to you. My bill was high so I called to change plans, and the agent kept lying. My new plan was absolutely worse than before. When they asked me to verbally give consent over the phone for the plan change, I asked 3 times to confirm the details because it wasn’t what they explained. I was right – the agent was lying. Literally shocked.”
“I had a very concerning experience with Just Energy. Representatives are going door to door presenting themselves as if they are affiliated with Entergy, claiming you’ve been overpaying on your electricity bill and that they can get you a better rate. However, what they don’t make clear is that they are trying to switch you to an entirely different energy provider. The sales tactic felt misleading and pushy.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Just Energy: Conditionally Recommended
Solid fixed-rate options, but billing needs improvement
Just Energy earns a conditional recommendation based on mixed performance across key metrics. As a large multinational energy marketer founded in 1997, they bring experience and stability to the Texas market, particularly for customers seeking fixed-rate plans with renewable energy options. Customer sentiment shows promise with a strong 4.5-star rating and healthy NPS score of 58, suggesting most customers have positive experiences overall. However, significant concerns emerge in two areas: the billing clarity score of just 19/100 indicates customers frequently struggle to understand their bills, and 236 PUC complaints over 12 months—nearly double the industry average of 120—signals recurring service issues that warrant attention. The customer service score of 50/100 reflects middling support quality. Just Energy works well for customers who prioritize plan variety and renewable options, but those who value transparent billing or have had past billing disputes may want to proceed carefully.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
