Cirro Energy Review 2026
Cirro Energy has been serving Texas electricity customers since 2001, making it one of the original retail electric providers when the market opened to competition. Now backed by Fortune 500 parent company NRG Energy, Cirro maintains an A+ BBB rating and serves over 150,000 customers with its ‘fair prices, simple plans, no surprises’ approach. Customer reviews reflect a 4.0-star rating with a Net Promoter Score of 21, indicating moderate satisfaction. However, the company’s 201 PUC complaints over the past 12 months exceeds the industry average of 120, suggesting room for improvement in regulatory matters.

Positive Experiences
“Awesome Sauce! The experience I had was excellent. I encountered no sarcasm or angst. The lady was very helpful and informative. Not only did she resolve my issue, she also advised me that I was eligible for certain services and even a lower rate. I was also kind and grammatically concise in stating my problem, which I like to attribute to the hospitality I received. Thank you!”
“I switched from TXU years ago (was paying $350) and my electricity bill is on average under $100. Awesome company to use.”
“Just want to let Cirro Energy management know thank you for keeping their promise for a $50 discount. Credit was added to my account immediately. Very dependable service at a good price. I remember during the terrible winter storm when most of Texas’ electricity was shut down for days, I had electricity throughout the storm except for a few brief outages that were restored really quick. Thank you Cirro for keeping me safe through trying times. I will be with Cirro as long as possible.”
“I would give you 5 stars, but I’m leaving room for improvement – something for you to grow and work harder toward. For a long time, I am doing okay with Cirro. Average billing, smart plans, and lower billing hours on average. All these utility companies have issues, but money talks – it’s the customers that make you viable. There needs to be plans fixed for young adults, college students living off campus, single parents, and senior citizens.”
Critical Feedback
“I have been a loyal customer with Cirro Energy for the past 5 years, but my recent experience has been extremely disappointing. On April 2, 2026, I spoke with a representative who agreed that I could pay a certain amount on my account and then pay the remaining balance on April 17, 2026. I made sure to confirm this arrangement and even have documentation of the agreed amount. However, today when I spoke with a supervisor, they claimed they reviewed the previous call and stated that the representative said something different.”
“Please do not use Cirro Energy. This company is scamming. My normal consumption is around 1000 kWh every month. They give $125 bill credit for 1000 kWh. For my first bill they billed me only for 26 days which was below 1000 kWh so I could not get the $125 bill credit. When I called customer service they could not provide me a reasonable answer. The second bill was for 35 days so that the bill was for 1228 kWh. For 1000 kWh the bill should have been around $99 as they advertise.”
“Horrible customer service! Very difficult to get anything accomplished and always requires a callback within 24 to 48 hours (lucky if that callback ever happens). As a new business customer to Cirro, I made the first payment using a draft and tried to set up auto pay. I used the wrong routing number for my bank (honest mistake because it was new businesses and new banks we had just started using), so the payment wasn’t processed and Cirro said it was returned. Of course it was returned because I gave them the wrong number.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Cirro Energy: Conditionally Recommended
Simple plans, but service inconsistencies persist
Cirro Energy delivers on its promise of straightforward pricing backed by Fortune 500 parent NRG Energy, earning a solid 4.0-star rating and positive NPS of 21. However, significant service gaps temper our enthusiasm. The customer service score of 36/100 and billing clarity score of 26/100 suggest that while plans may be simple in concept, the execution doesn’t always match. More concerning, Cirro’s 201 PUC complaints over the past 12 months sits well above the industry average of 120, indicating regulatory issues that warrant attention. For customers who prioritize corporate stability and uncomplicated plan structures over hands-on support, Cirro remains a viable option. However, those who anticipate needing responsive customer service or have concerns about billing transparency may want to explore alternatives with stronger service metrics.

- 108 billing-related complaints suggest confusing statements

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
