Sewage Service

Wastewater service is bundled with water service through the City of Sugar Land Water Utilities Department. When you establish water service, sewer service is automatically included. The city operates and maintains sanitary sewer lift stations and wastewater treatment facilities, while homeowners are responsible for the water and wastewater lines connecting their property to the city’s main lines.

Garbage & Recycling

Garbage and recycling services are provided by Republic Services under an exclusive city contract and are automatically included when you sign up for water service. Residents receive a 95-gallon garbage cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart. Collection includes twice-weekly garbage pickup, weekly recycling, weekly green waste collection, and monthly bulky waste pickup. Collection days vary by neighborhood—use the MyNeighborhood tool at sugarlandtx.gov to find your schedule. For cart delivery, repairs, or service issues, contact Republic Services at 713-726-7307.

You'll need a signed Residential Water Service Application, government-issued photo ID, your new service address, and move-in date. A lease agreement or closing documents may also be requested. Optionally, provide a utility reference letter to waive the deposit.

A $50 deposit is required unless you provide a letter of reference from another utility company showing no outstanding balance and no disconnections for nonpayment during the last 12 consecutive billing cycles. Email the letter to [email protected] within two weeks of applying.

The city requires one working day's notice to connect water service. If you need service connected on the same day you apply, a $25 service initiation fee will be charged. Connections occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., excluding holidays.
