Positive Experiences
“I switched to Energy Texas for the simple reason that they cost just about 1/3 of the more popular retail electric providers. Make no mistake! Retailers do not do anything but get in the way of providing electric power. No one knows this better than I do after my very long career with the power company who actually works to deliver your electricity. “Gilbert” was direct, clear and most pleasant in assisting in switching me.”
“We were shopping around for an energy provider and came across Energy Texas — so glad we did! We enrolled over the phone and Ivan helped us through the entire process. He was patient, friendly, and took the time to explain everything clearly since we were completely new to all of this. It made signing up feel easy and stress-free. So far the service has been great and we’ve had no issues. Thanks, Ivan!”
“Super easy and quick to apply. You don’t share your information with the representative, which I love — instead you key your info into your phone and an approval is sent to the representative who is taking your order. The rep was very friendly and actually knew her job and how to do it. I am 100% satisfied so far.”
“Everything has been going well so far. Signing up for their service was easy. Setting up an online account was also easy. I received my first bill and there were no surprises. The rates were what they advertised.”
“Made the switch and love that Energy Texas offers a fixed rate plan unlike almost all the other providers that give you roll-the-dice billing based on what usage you fall into that month. I signed up online and it was super fast and super easy! Very nice web UI for signing up.”
Critical Feedback
“Been shopping for electric, this company advertised for 10 cents per kWh. A year’s contract for 10 cents kWh. So I signed up and locked it in on the same day — it was confirmed via email at 9.6 kWh. I have now received an email with a graph showing consumption and estimated cost. Not sure why there would be an average cost of 14.2 kWh and an estimated cost over $300 for this month. That is not what I signed up for. I hope this will straighten itself out.”
“Sent in first payment with full receipt and multiple payment completed notifications. Being new to Texas, my bank didn’t let the payment go through initially. I called them and explained the situation. Now that I was technically past due, they assured me no late fees would be applied. Next bill I don’t only get a late fee BUT an insufficient funds fee. I’ve felt real welcome so far with the false dealings of Energy Texas.”
“Received a bill with no remittance address. Can’t get that without being able to sign in. Unsuccessfully tried to sign in several times. Started a chat from the website that took 10 minutes to respond. Still unable to get an account set up. Your customer service is not holding up at all, which has me concerned about the company in general. I still don’t have an active account.”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
