APGE
Complete Provider Analysis
When evaluating APGE, prospective customers should weigh the strong overall satisfaction reflected in reviews against the moderate billing clarity concerns. The below-average PUC complaint volume suggests the provider handles regulatory matters adequately, though this metric measures formal disputes rather than everyday customer experiences. Those prioritizing straightforward billing may want to review plan details carefully, while customers focused on general service quality may find APGE’s ratings competitive within the Texas market.

Positive Experiences
“Online enrollment with APG&E was very easy and straightforward. Used the sign-up link from the Apples to Apples price comparison charts and it worked fine – received the pricing as the chart indicated. They do have a lot of term (duration) options compared to what some of the other suppliers offer. So I ran the various pricing numbers with my last year’s usage to decide what term makes the most sense at the moment. I received my contract information both in email right away and then in paper mail.”
“Daniel was so helpful, he stayed on the phone with me for hours helping fix my issues and even got me a better plan than I was on before.”
“Great customer service! Nancy (4109) assisted me with my question about properly terminating my service after selling my property. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to understand. Everyone that I’ve worked with at APG&E have been great and the wait time is never too long for assistance.”
“The specialist that helped me made it very easy to find a good plan that should work perfectly with my electricity usage. Very helpful and professional. Getting the right electricity plan for my house can be a challenge because we normally use less than 1,000 kWh’s, but they found something that works.”
“I found APG&E using one of the electricity provider comparison websites. We moved over from 4ChangeEnergy in September 2025, even though we had a couple of months to go on our contract. The early termination penalty was nothing compared to the money we’ve saved in the first two months of our new plan. The transition process was easy and smooth. Once our online account was set up, payments are easy to make.”
Critical Feedback
“Our contract ended and we were not contacted about renewing or notified that our rate would change. We later learned the price per kWh increased to $0.22, and our bill for a mild winter month came out to $748—when it should have been closer to $180 based on our normal usage. I’m extremely disappointed in the lack of communication and proactive customer service. We only discovered the rate change when the bill arrived.”
“Signed up for Simple Saver 12 and was told the ‘all in’ price would be 9.9 cents. Even gave the representative my kWh last month who computed my payment with them. I get the actual agreement and there is an additional AEP delivery charge added of 6 cents per kWh plus a $3 per month charge. Getting in touch with the company by phone has been unsuccessful even when leaving a call back number.”
“Unfortunately their word is worth nothing. When you ask for help they tell you ‘Let me read your contract.’ I was told I wasn’t up for disconnection, then boom—no power AND a $50 reconnect fee. They won’t remove the fee saying ‘per my contract that can be charged.’ So whatever they say doesn’t matter.”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
