Sewage Service

Wastewater and sewer service is provided by the City of Gainesville Public Works Department and is automatically bundled with your water service on the same utility bill. For sewer-related service issues such as backups or line problems, contact the Wastewater Collections Division directly at 940-668-4540.

Garbage & Recycling

Solid waste collection is handled by the City of Gainesville General Services Department and is automatically initiated when you start water service. Residents receive a 96-gallon roll-out cart with once-weekly curbside pickup for a monthly fee of $22.51. Collection days vary by address. The city offers drop-off recycling only at the free Recycling Center located at 601 North Interstate 35, which accepts cardboard, newspapers, magazines, and cardboard food boxes. Residents may also take up to two tons of waste per year to the Transfer Station free of charge with proof of an active water account.

You'll need a valid picture ID, plus either a lease/rental agreement or home purchase closing documents. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must be present to sign the application. One day's notice is required for connection.

Residential customers pay a $166.57 deposit plus a $91.64 non-refundable account initiation fee to start service. Business customers pay a $56.40 initiation fee plus a deposit based on meter size and must first obtain a certificate of occupancy.
