PROVIDER REVIEW
4Change Energy Review 2026
4Change Energy is a Dallas-based electricity provider founded in 2012, operating under Vistra Corp while maintaining independent branding. The company distinguishes itself through a charitable giving model, donating 4% of profits to customer-selected organizations like Feeding Texas and the American Red Cross. Customer sentiment data shows strong satisfaction, with a 4.8-star rating and an impressive NPS of 81. However, with 123 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—slightly above the industry average of 120—prospective customers should weigh this against the provider’s community-focused mission.

The company’s 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee provides some reassurance for new customers. While billing clarity scores (76/100) and customer service ratings (79/100) indicate room for improvement, the overall customer sentiment remains positive. The slightly elevated PUC complaint volume warrants attention, though it doesn’t significantly deviate from industry norms.

Positive Experiences
“I’ve been using 4Change Energy, and overall it’s been a pretty solid experience. The biggest thing for me has been the pricing — my bill dropped compared to my last provider, and the plan I chose was straightforward without a bunch of confusing fine print. That alone made the switch feel worth it. One thing I genuinely appreciate is that they donate part of their profits to Texas charities. It’s a small thing, but it makes me feel better about where my money is going.”
“I have been with 4Change for a couple of years now and I am very pleased with them. I am on a plan that gives me a $50 credit if I use over 1000kw. I would highly recommend looking into their programs. They provide a weekly summary of your usage for the week which really helps in planning your approximate upcoming bill. Thank you 4Change for your excellent service.”
“I haven’t been a customer of 4Change Energy for long but I have been consistently impressed with their service. They provide a clear, bird’s-eye view of my monthly bill, which allows me to make adjustments and stay within my budget. Their billing is always accurate, and their customer service is top-notch—responsive, friendly, and incredibly helpful. Overall, I highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable and transparent electric service.”
“Very good electric company. Will work with you if payday is late or you need a couple extra days to pay. Their customer service reps are very nice people.”
“Lower prices, easy to switch, UI is super easy to understand, everything was just easy. The last company I used were just jerks. This place was E-Z! The best part is that I’m saving money as well. I have a Tesla and the lower price on energy is making the cost of driving the Tesla even more economical than before.”
Critical Feedback
“If I could give less than 1 star I would. I signed up for an 11 cent per watt rate but did not get that. I never got a full month bill until my 60 days were up, so I couldn’t cancel my contract. I got an 18 day bill, 28 day bill and then a 33 day bill. When I called them, I talked to 4 people and they all gave me a different answer to why I wasn’t getting the 11 cent rate. I read other reviews afterwards that this company did the same thing to them. I would not recommend.”
“I’m disappointed because they changed the app and it’s useless because we can no longer track daily usage.”
“4Change is my provider of renewable energy. It is responsive and has responded to the single inquiry I had within 24 hours by telephone call, so that is a big plus. I do find it very strange that despite providing renewable energy, 4Change provides no opportunities for cost-saving programs or incentives related to renewable energy adoption.”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
