Amigo Energy Review 2026
Amigo Energy has served Texas electricity customers since 2003, originally founded by a Hispanic father-son team in Houston before being acquired by Just Energy Group in 2011. The company maintains strong customer sentiment with a 4.7-star rating and a Net Promoter Score of 71, indicating high satisfaction levels. Their regulatory record is solid, with only 24 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—well below the industry average of 120. However, their Billing Clarity Score of 20/100 suggests customers may find invoices confusing.
AMIGO ENERGY
Complete Provider Analysis
Amigo Energy distinguishes itself through full bilingual English/Spanish customer support, reflecting its Hispanic heritage roots. The company earned recognition as Houston Chronicle’s Best Electricity Company in 2023. While their Customer Service Score of 56/100 indicates room for improvement in service interactions, their below-average complaint rate with Texas regulators demonstrates operational reliability. Prospective customers should weigh the strong overall satisfaction against potential billing transparency concerns when comparing plans.

Positive Experiences
“Today was a day that was hard for me. My wife has passed away and the electric bill was in her name. She always paid the bills. The Amigo Energy employees helped me put the bill in my name and even gave me a better rate due to my great credit. Thank you Amigo Energy for helping during the loss of my wife.”
“My rep was so patient with me. He answered all of my 1000 questions and really worked with me to make sure the plan I chose would really fit our home’s needs. Can’t wait to start this journey and lasting years after coming from a provider who severely abused our hard earned income.”
“I’m sorry if I misspell the name but Paige helped me out today and when I say the customer service was immaculate… I felt heard, seen, and welcomed as soon as Paige started explaining everything to me. He listened to all my concerns, what type of plan I wanted, and how stressed I was about other agencies just not caring. Paige went above and beyond to enroll me in an amazing plan, he was extremely patient throughout the whole call and was very polite. He is truly what amazing customer service looks like.”
“I appreciate Don for his great service explaining details clearly about my Amigo new contract. He was courteous, patient and did a good job explaining my Amigo coverage. He is a big asset to the company! Thank you!”
“We were referred to this company and first talked to Deven – he answered all my questions and got me set up at my new address. Then I talked to Caleb to confirm transfer date and all information needed. He was very nice and helpful. I think it will go great with this company. My last company was horrible, so I hope this one is better – fingers crossed.”
Critical Feedback
“I’ve been a client for more than 3 years with them, same square footage apartment, usually gets a bill for $80-$110 which is reasonable. This time I got a bill for $287 for the same apartment after I wasn’t home for 2 weeks out of the month and everything was shut off. The representative even told me that he can see that the usage was off for more than 10 days but couldn’t explain why I’m getting charged 3 times what I usually pay. Automatically offered me a payment plan without even addressing the issue.”
“Worst experience I’ve had with a major company. Every representative besides the retention specialist gave me false information or lied throughout my 3 months with the company. Consistently transferring me to other departments where my questions remained unanswered, and even trying to sell me things other than electricity. I’ve experienced lots of frustration, so I decided to pay the early termination fee. I even referred a family member and they demanded a $299 deposit.”
“The sign-up experience was painful. Why isn’t there an online portal to enroll? Being asked to provide my SSN, credit card information, and other sensitive personal details over the phone felt uncomfortable and outdated. To make matters worse, the call ended with a sales pitch for a water filtration system. I’m trying to sign up for electricity – why is a water filtration system being marketed during that process?”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Amigo Energy: Recommended
Strong choice for bilingual households seeking value
Amigo Energy earns our recommendation as a solid retail electricity provider, particularly for Spanish-speaking customers in Texas. With an impressive 4.7-star rating and a True NPS of 71, customer satisfaction runs notably high. The company’s customer service score of 56/100 reflects decent support experiences, though the billing clarity score of 20/100 suggests invoices and rate structures could be more transparent. On the regulatory front, Amigo Energy performs well with just 24 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—significantly below the industry average of 120—indicating relatively few escalated disputes. Founded in Houston with Hispanic heritage at its core, Amigo delivers genuine bilingual service that goes beyond token translations. While customers should review contract terms carefully given the lower billing clarity marks, the overall package of competitive fixed rates, strong customer sentiment, and clean regulatory record makes Amigo a worthwhile option.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
