PROVIDER REVIEW
Amigo Energy Review 2026
Amigo Energy has served Texas electricity customers since 2003, originally founded by a Hispanic father-son team in Houston before being acquired by Just Energy Group in 2011. The provider maintains strong customer sentiment with a 4.7-star rating and an impressive NPS of 70, indicating high customer loyalty. Their regulatory record shows 57 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—well below the industry average of 120. However, their Billing Clarity Score of 19/100 suggests customers may find invoices difficult to understand.
AMIGO ENERGY
Complete Provider Analysis
Amigo Energy distinguishes itself through full bilingual English/Spanish customer support, reflecting its Hispanic heritage roots. The Houston Chronicle named them Houston’s Best Electricity Company in 2023. While their Customer Service Score of 54/100 indicates room for improvement in service interactions, their below-average complaint volume with Texas regulators demonstrates reasonable operational standards. The provider is best suited for Spanish-speaking households and customers seeking competitive fixed-rate plans.

Positive Experiences
“I’m sorry if I misspell the name but Paige helped me out today and when I say the customer service was immaculate… I felt heard, seen, and welcomed as soon as Paige started explaining everything to me. He listened to all my concerns, what type of plan I wanted, and how stressed I was about other agencies just not caring. Paige went above and beyond to enroll me in an amazing plan, he was EXTREMELY patient throughout the whole call and was very polite. He is truly what amazing customer service looks like.”
“We were referred to this company and first talked to Deven – he answered all my questions and got me set up at my new address. Then I talked to Caleb to confirm the transfer date and all information needed. He was very nice and helpful. I think it will go great with this company. The last company I had was horrible, so I hope this one is better!”
“The young man that I talked to was very professional, caring, and understanding of my situation. He also signed me up with a program that will be giving me a discount. As a senior citizen, he understands that the income I receive each month makes it difficult to pay my energy bill. Thank you so much, sir. God bless you and the company that you work for.”
“Carrie was so nice and helped me get everything set up within 10 or 15 minutes. Highly recommend asking for Carrie Cummings. Super nice and seems like a great company! Thank you all again.”
“I really liked the kindness and gentleness of the advisor. He made me feel comfortable and gave me confidence during the signup process. Great experience overall.”
Critical Feedback
“Amigo has no idea what’s going on. I get an offer to renew in the mail at one price. I login to check plans and get a second price. I call customer support and they give me a third price. Three totally different prices, same plan. The plan I originally signed up for is temporary and for new customers only, so it’s a bait and switch. Even worse, when customer service sends you a plan, they only show the 2000 kWh rate without telling you the full rates.”
“When I first signed up with Amigo more than 5 years ago, they were amazing. But over the last 2 years, they have inflated their prices to an insane amount and their customer service has gone downhill. They no longer care about their customers.”
“Service was ok, but the company is completely not lenient to good customers. They charged the full early termination fee for switching to another provider ONE day before my contract expired, saying they HAVE to charge this fee. Very disappointing after being a loyal customer.”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
