PROVIDER REVIEW
Amigo Energy Review 2026
Amigo Energy has served Texas electricity customers since 2003, originally founded by a Hispanic father-son team in Houston before joining the Just Energy Group in 2011. The provider maintains strong customer satisfaction with a 4.7-star rating and an NPS of 73, reflecting positive overall sentiment. With just 52 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—well below the industry average of 120—Amigo demonstrates a solid regulatory track record. However, its Billing Clarity Score of 22/100 suggests customers may find invoices difficult to understand.
AMIGO ENERGY
Complete Provider Analysis
Amigo Energy distinguishes itself through full bilingual English/Spanish customer support, making it a practical choice for Spanish-speaking households across Texas. The company earned the Houston Chronicle’s Best Electricity Company recognition in 2023. While its Customer Service Score of 58/100 indicates room for improvement in support interactions, the provider’s below-average complaint volume with state regulators suggests most issues get resolved without escalation. Prospective customers should review plan documents carefully given the lower billing clarity scores.

Positive Experiences
“The young man that I talked to was very professional, caring, and understanding of my situation. He also signed me up with a program that will be giving me a discount. As a senior citizen, he understands that the income I receive each month makes it possible to pay my energy bill. Thank you so much, sir. God bless you and the company that you work for.”
“Quick and fast service. I am switching over from Just Energy now that I’m done with my 36 month plan and I am looking forward to this new company. I heard a lot of great things about them. The phone representative that helped assist me was very kind and efficient in getting what I needed done and answered all my questions.”
“My representative, Darren, was amazing! Very patient and friendly as well as thorough. He answered all my questions with complete clarity and welcomed me to contact him at any time with any questions or concerns! 10 out of 10!! Highly recommend!”
“Yesterday I requested my energy service and they gave me a 24-hour deadline and before 24 hours I already had electricity. Very good service so far, thanks to the group.”
“Brandon was thorough and professional. Helped me with a complicated issue regarding my electric bill.”
Critical Feedback
“The worst customer service and systems I’ve ever had to use. I’m fed up to the point I’m considering paying the fee to break the contract. I have not been able to get the login to work since I set up service in July 2025. I emailed them and according to them I never registered in the online portal – if that’s true, how did I manage to reset my password? The pay by phone system works even worse than the online portal.”
“New Customer (8/2025): Excellent customer service! Curlin was extremely helpful and patient. Answered all my questions and explained everything. Thank you so much! UPDATE 10/2025: The bills don’t reflect what was originally discussed – much higher prices than quoted! I’ll be looking for another company that will be more transparent!”
“When I first signed up with Amigo more than 5 years ago, they were amazing. But over the last 2 years, they have inflated their prices to an insane amount and their customer service has gone in the trash. They no longer care about their customers.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Amigo Energy: Recommended
Strong choice for bilingual households seeking value
Amigo Energy earns our recommendation as a reliable choice in the Texas electricity market. With an impressive 4.7-star rating and a True NPS of 73, customer satisfaction runs notably high. Their customer service score of 58/100 reflects generally positive interactions, particularly valuable given their bilingual support commitment. The regulatory picture is equally encouraging—just 52 PUC complaints over 12 months sits well below the 120-complaint industry average, suggesting fewer billing disputes and service issues than typical providers. However, the billing clarity score of 22/100 warrants attention; customers should review rate structures and bill details carefully before signing. Founded in Houston with a focus on the Hispanic community, Amigo Energy delivers competitive fixed rates with Spanish-language support that many competitors lack. For Spanish-speaking households or anyone prioritizing low complaint rates and strong customer loyalty, Amigo Energy represents a solid choice.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
