Amigo Energy Review 2026
Amigo Energy has served Texas electricity customers since 2003, originally founded by a Hispanic father-son team in Houston before being acquired by Just Energy Group in 2011. The provider maintains strong customer sentiment with a 4.7-star rating and an NPS of 70, indicating high satisfaction among reviewers. Their regulatory record shows 57 PUC complaints over the past 12 months, below the industry average of 120. Positive Experiences
“I’m sorry if I misspell the name but Paige helped me out today and when I say the customer service was immaculate… I felt heard, seen, and welcomed as soon as Paige started explaining everything to me. He listened to all my concerns, what type of plan I wanted, and how stressed I was about other agencies just not caring. Paige went above and beyond to enroll me in an amazing plan, he was EXTREMELY patient throughout the whole call and was very polite. He is truly what amazing customer service looks like.”
“We were referred to this company and first talked to Deven – he answered all my questions and got me set up at my new address. Then I talked to Caleb to confirm the transfer date and all the information needed. He was very nice and helpful. I think it will go great with this company. The last company I had was horrible, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. So I hope this one is better – fingers crossed!”
“The young man that I talked to was very professional, caring and understanding of my situation. He also signed me up with a program that will be giving me a discount. As a senior citizen, he understands that the income I receive each month makes it difficult to pay my energy bill. Thank you so much sir, and I apologize for not remembering your name. God bless you and the company that you work for.”
“Carrie was so nice and helped me get everything set up within 10 or 15 minutes. Highly recommend asking for Carrie Cummings. Super nice and seems like a great company! Thank you all again.”
“I really liked the kindness and gentleness of the advisor. He made me feel a good experience and confidence when doing the process.”
Critical Feedback
“Amigo has no idea what’s going on. I get an offer to renew in the mail at one price. I login to check plans and get a second price. I call customer support and they give me a third price. Three totally different prices, same plan. The plan I originally signed up for is temporary and for new customers only, so it’s a bait and switch. And even worse, when customer service sends you a plan, it’s the best rate, but they don’t tell you the full rates – they only show the 2000 kWh usage tier.”
“Worst energy company I’ve had to deal with. I called in and made a payment arrangement and was told a specific due date for the remaining amount. My service is disconnected 4 days before the due date. I called to speak with a supervisor who pulled the phone call and then tells me they didn’t hear the agent tell me the due date – we only talked about taking my payment. So you’re telling me a whole phone call is missing important key factors? Absolutely ridiculous.”
“New Customer (Aug 2025): Excellent customer service! Curlin was extremely helpful and patient. Answered all my questions and explained everything. Thank you so much! UPDATE Oct 2025: The bills don’t reflect what was originally discussed – much higher prices than quoted! I’ll be looking for another company that will be more transparent!”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Amigo Energy: Recommended
Strong choice for bilingual households seeking value
Amigo Energy earns our recommendation as a solid choice in the Texas electricity market, particularly for Spanish-speaking customers. With an impressive 4.7-star rating and a True NPS of 70, customer satisfaction runs notably high. The customer service score of 54/100 reflects adequate support, bolstered by their fully bilingual operations—a meaningful advantage for Hispanic households. However, the billing clarity score of 19/100 signals that invoices and rate structures may cause confusion, so customers should review contract terms carefully. On the regulatory front, Amigo Energy performs well with just 57 PUC complaints over 12 months—less than half the industry average of 120—indicating relatively few escalated disputes. Founded in Houston in 2003 under Just Energy Group, Amigo has established itself as a competitive option for those prioritizing affordability and culturally attuned service.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
