PROVIDER REVIEW
Constellation Review 2026
Constellation is a Fortune 500 energy company and the nation’s largest producer of carbon-free energy, serving Texas customers since 2001. After acquiring Houston-based StarTex Power in 2011, they’ve established a significant presence in the deregulated market. Customer sentiment is notably strong, with a 5.0/5.0 star rating and an impressive NPS of 89. Their regulatory track record is equally solid—just 39 PUC complaints over the past 12 months, well below the industry average of 120. Billing clarity scores (72/100) suggest some room for improvement in statement transparency.

Positive Experiences
“I have gone through four Energy Providers, each with their own gimmick to entice you to switch. I will admit I am a sucker for saving money because I am retired and on a fixed income – every penny counts. When I signed up for Constellation service, I was hesitant at first, but when they came to optimize my HVAC and replaced failing parts FREE OF CHARGE with no trip fees and no hassle, performed by the most courteous technician, I WAS IMPRESSED! I encourage everyone to give them a try.”
“From the day I became a Constellation customer I’ve received nothing but excellent service and outstanding customer support. Constellation is reputable when it comes to promising lower electricity bills, and they are honorable with maintaining customer rewards, perks, and referral bonuses. I highly recommend Constellation!”
“The weekly update of electrical use and projected bill for the month gives a budgeting feature for a utility bill. If it is unusually high, it gives an opportunity to see what is running that shouldn’t be or something that needs to be turned off. Great tool for managing expenses.”
“I’m so glad I made the switch to Constellation when I did. It was a nightmare with the previous company as I was constantly worried about how much my bill was going to be at the end of each billing cycle due to the lie they sold me on a free weekend plan. Since switching to Constellation, I no longer have to worry.”
“I have been a Constellation customer for 4 years now and couldn’t be happier with their service. I’ve never had any issues and the website is super easy to navigate. All of the information you need is there and easy to read.”
Critical Feedback
“I recently picked Constellation Energy from Power to Choose and signed up online. This was the worst sign-up experience I’ve ever had. They switched my energy on the spot without providing me the opportunity to select a future date, so be careful with that before finalizing the transaction. I called customer service and the person I spoke with was in sales and very aggressive. I told him I wanted a six-month plan and he was signing me up for a 36-month plan anyway.”
“They have higher rates than Reliant Energy and their contract is 36 months. This is insane. I don’t recommend this company – stay away!”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
