Positive Experiences
“If y’all have questions or are looking to purchase a new plan, call and ask for Saul. This man was very informed, professional, and passionate about his employer (green flag) – been in the industry for 11 years. I was calling Energy Texas to end my service, but he managed to keep my business. As a whole, their plans have been pretty straightforward… 500kwh-2000kwh, all pricing is the same.”
“Super rates and extremely easy to switch to the No Bull 12 month plan. Then I had a question after I got my confirmation my electricity switched, called them, and got a live person who answered my question fully.”
“Very easy process with consistent kWh price and no usage or base charge. Also with the $5 auto pay credit you don’t have to pay that Centerpoint fee basically. First time having my own electricity and I feel safe and comfortable rather than with other companies that scream scam.”
“I called instead of picking an electric company online because I was getting very frustrated with so many options. Jay was so helpful to help me pick a company that would be just right for my needs! With his guidance I was able to complete my application with what I needed in record time with NO frustration!! Thank you, Jay!!”
“Energy Texas has been very easy to work with with a seamless transition from my previous electricity provider. They offer multiple plans all of which are extremely competitive.”
Critical Feedback
“Very disappointed with Energy Texas. I paid $82 for my previous billing cycle, then received a $72 bill covering only 18 days. The billing does not make sense based on my expectations and usage. When customers see such large differences in such a short period, it raises serious concerns about billing transparency. Electricity providers should make charges clear and easy to verify. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Energy Texas.”
“We’ll see how they follow up with customer service, but I enrolled in one plan with one rate, and got registered for a different plan and nearly double the rate. So far, pretty terrible.”
“What’s the point of a sales team if they aren’t selling me anything. By far the worst experience I have ever encountered in trying to set up my service. After ten separate 30 minute phone calls with the sales team over weeks, still not able to process my application. The rate was perfect for what I needed for my 8-unit property, but not even worth the savings I would have gotten. I wish I had that time back.”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
