Positive Experiences
“I switched to Energy Texas for the simple reason that they cost just about 1/3 of the more popular retail electric providers. Make no mistake! Retailers do not do anything but get in the way of providing electric power. No one knows this better than I do after my very long career with the power company who actually works to deliver your electricity. Gilbert was direct, clear and most pleasant in assisting in switching me.”
“Very easy process with consistent kWh price and no usage or base charge. Also with the $5 auto pay credit you basically don’t have to pay that Centerpoint fee. First time having my own electricity and I feel safe and comfortable rather than with other companies that scream scam.”
“Super easy and quick to apply. You don’t share your information with the representative, which I love. Instead you key your info into your phone and an approval is sent to the representative who is taking your order. She was very friendly and actually knew her job and how to do it. I am 100% satisfied so far.”
“Associate Juan was super helpful with my process of signing up, took me step by step, ensured all my information was correct. He was super quick with the process and helped me get approved before the deadline.”
“I called instead of picking an electric company online because I was getting very frustrated with so many options. Jay was so helpful in helping me pick a company that would be just right for my needs! With his guidance I was able to complete my application with what I needed in record time with NO frustration! Thank you, Jay!”
Critical Feedback
“What’s the point of a sales team if they aren’t selling me anything? By far the worst experience I have ever encountered in trying to set up my service. After ten separate 30-minute phone calls with the sales team over weeks, still not able to process my application. The rate was perfect for what I needed for my 8-unit property, but not even worth the savings I would have gotten. I wish I had that time back.”
“Been shopping for electric, this company advertised for 10 cents per kWh. A year’s contract for 10 cents per kWh. So I signed up and locked it in, confirmed via email at 9.6 kWh. I have now received an email showing an average cost of 14.2 kWh and an estimated cost over $300 for this month. That is not what I signed up for! I hope this will straighten itself out.”
“I would NOT recommend Energy Texas to anyone. The customer service is incredibly frustrating — the representatives say one thing and then something completely different happens. I specifically spoke with a supervisor to clarify my account and avoid any issues, and despite that conversation, my power was still disconnected. After being assured everything was handled, I was left without electricity and had to wait 4-6 hours for it to be turned back on. That’s unacceptable.”

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
