PROVIDER REVIEW
Just Energy Review 2026
Just Energy has served Texas electricity customers since 1997, growing into a multinational energy marketer that also operates the Amigo Energy and Tara Energy brands. The company navigated bankruptcy restructuring in 2021 following Winter Storm Uri and is currently being acquired by IGS Energy. Customer reviews reflect a 4.4-star rating with a strong NPS of 53, indicating generally positive experiences. However, Just Energy recorded 233 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—nearly double the industry average—and its billing clarity score of 15/100 suggests room for improvement in transparent pricing communication.
JUST ENERGY
Complete Provider Analysis
Just Energy offers fixed-rate plans alongside JustGreen renewable energy options for environmentally conscious customers. While the company’s customer service score of 46/100 indicates mixed feedback on support interactions, its solid NPS demonstrates that many customers would recommend the provider. Prospective customers should carefully review contract terms and billing structures given the low billing clarity score. The pending IGS Energy acquisition may bring operational changes, potentially affecting plan offerings and customer service going forward.

Positive Experiences
“Sabrina Simpson was very helpful, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. She showed me how I can save money on my energy bill by becoming a JustEnergy customer. And because of her energy and enthusiasm and salesmanship, I will now become a new customer of this company. Thank you Sabrina!”
“The Representative Laverne was great! She took time to explain everything with me, she was pleasant to talk to, and most of all I could understand what she was communicating to me. Thank you for your help and hopefully I won’t regret this decision to change my service provider.”
“We had a good experience getting to know Cheyenne, our sales person for the new energy company we signed up with at Sam’s tonight. He did an excellent job winning us over from TXU who we have been with many years.”
“It was nice to meet Luis. He is very knowledgeable, patient, kind and timely. Hoping all is as stated and we save money on our electricity bills for the next 2 years of this contract. I’m excited!”
“Excellent customer service. He understood my problem and was very helpful in resolving it.”
Critical Feedback
“Ok priced plans, but constant issues verifying my account when contacting them because the phone agent that signed me up spelled my name wrong even after I spelled it out to them. A year later and multiple contacts about getting my name fixed, they keep saying it is fixed or have some excuse about why it’s not updating. If you can’t even update my first name to be correct after a year of multiple calls and chats, then you don’t deserve the effort to take my money.”
“BUYER BEWARE. When I signed up, they offered a lower rate. Sales guy was friendly. They offered to pay my early termination fee from my previous company. Fast forward, first bill they charge a 4.5% delivery fee in addition to the rate, plus other taxes and fees. Their delivery rate is what increases it significantly. The customer service is hard to reach. They aren’t customer friendly and do not try to compromise or work with your requests.”
“I am a senior citizen and have made repeated, good-faith attempts to contact a live customer service representative in order to make a required payment. On each occasion, I was subjected to extended wait times exceeding thirty minutes and was unable to reach a live agent. This failure has persisted continuously for approximately five to six months. As a direct result, I have been prevented from making timely payments.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Just Energy: Conditionally Recommended
Established provider with mixed regulatory record
Just Energy earns a conditional recommendation based on a split performance profile. As a large multinational energy marketer founded in 1997, the company brings stability and multiple plan options to Texas customers. Customer sentiment is notably positive, with a strong 4.4-star rating and an impressive True NPS of 53, indicating satisfied customers who would recommend the service. However, significant concerns exist on both the regulatory and transparency fronts. With 233 PUC complaints over the past 12 months—nearly double the industry average of 120—there’s clear evidence of recurring issues. Additionally, the extremely low Billing Clarity Score of 15/100 suggests customers may encounter confusing bills or unexpected charges. The customer service score of 46/100 also indicates room for improvement. Just Energy can work well for customers who prioritize fixed-rate stability and renewable options, but careful plan review is essential.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
